When I was just a little boy
And walked to school each day.
I remember back
To a boy named Jack
Who joined me on the way.
Brothers and sisters came running too
We were such a happy clan
When walking to school
There was only one rule
Make all the noise you can.
Our clan soon, gotmuch largerindeed
With the sounds of Happney kids’ shouts.
They’d yell and they’d run
Like shot from a gun
Or jailbirds just being let out.
As we ran toward the school like demons
With God’s angels behind given chase
We’d whoop and we’d yell
Like dismissed with a bell
After memories we’d never erase.
I still remember, a view of the school
Benton and Lowell wondering indeed
To catch Lizzie’s eye
As they raced by
For she was something to see.
Emma and I often chattered
With Junior and Steve most every day
Yet, best I recall
From recalling it all
Was to be like the big boys, someday.
Watching Clare, Pat, and Kenny
Play games at the top of the line
Still remind me of then
Of good times that had been,
Never forgotten, in my lifetime.
