Hay time on the farm was quite a big stir
When Bomp laid green meadows down.
Everyone knew and Bomp did so too,
In two days, need would abound.
But one neighbor would come with his tractor.
With Bomp his tractor behind,
And from most anywhere help would be there
With more help to come anytime.
The yard would be full of cars scattered ‘round
And straw hats and sweat rags a plenty.
There’d be many men and women with them
But only the young were paid money.
Neighbors were there to help when they could
For this, is what neighbors did.
A long time ago, few people today, know
The value of how, neighbors live.
When the fields on the farm came alive
With the smell of cured hay on the ground,
At the end of the day, with the last load of hay
Everyone gathered around.
It was now, Ma’s turn to shine
With a meal that was second to none.
The chairs in the room filled up very soon
By those there, most anyone.
Bomp would say as help parted
Many thanks to each of you, friend,
But everyone knew and Bomp knew so too
They’d be back, when needed, again.
